Cowboys

  Cowboys wear long boots, leather pants, and big cowboy hats. They wear them to protect themselves from weather and animals. Cowboys were important in the old west. After the Civil War, many soldiers had no home to return to. They went to the west to find some jobs. The soldiers finally found their work. It was taking care of cattle. They drove the cattle miles away to market to sell them. And they sometimes participated in rodeos. A rodeo was an event to show the cowboys’ cattle handling skills. The most dangerous and exciting game was wild bull riding. The average wild bull weighs 600 kg to 800 kg. The rodeo is still a big event in the western countries.

   Google is perhaps the most popular search engine used on the Internet today. It is used by more than half of all Internet search engine users in the world.

   The Google company was founded by two students from Stanford University in 1998. But, Google was actually begun as a research project in early 1996. Larry Page and Sergey Brin wanted to develop a more efficient search engine. This search engine should analyze the words that appear on many webpages. Page and Brin worked a long time on this project. They did it out of a friend’s garage. They called their engine Google because they misspelled the math term “googol.” The googol is a 1 followed by 100 zeros and can be written ten to the 100th power in conventional notation.(传统标记法)
